ALBANY - The University at Albany used its most balanced effort on Friday evening, to take down Yale, 70-62, at SEFCU Arena.

The Great Danes had three guys in double figures, led by DJ Evans, who scored 14. Nine different players scored for UAlbany, including Dallas Ennema, who scored his first points in his first career game action.

What it means: UAlbany is now 2-2 at home and 5-0 this season, when scoring 70 or more points in a game. It also means the Great Danes won't suffer any sort extended losing streak, heading into conference play, with just non-league games left.

Yale is another good team and UAlbany didn't play its best and still led by 10, with as little at 2:17 to play.

This was a good, solid victory.

Player of the game: Luke Devlin has dealt with more injuries that I even remember and yet the senior played his best game of the season. Constantly moving, even when he was out of the game, Devlin scored nine points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.

An all-rookie guy as a freshman, Devlin has been plagued by injuries and it was nice to see him put out a nice performance.

Play of the game: The Great Danes made their free throws down the stretch. In fact, UAlbany's last 10 points came from the free throw line, as they hung on, despite a ferocious press from Yale in the late stages. John Puk also did a great job receiving the inbounds and then making some foul shots, finishing with 13 points, one shy of his career-high.

Injury Update:  Levan Shengelia gutted it out for two minutes, scoring two points and grabbing a rebound. On the rebound though, he reinjured his right shoulder. Coach Will Brown said Shengelia felt a sharp pain and that's what Brown elected not to put him back in the game. That shoulder will have to have surgery, it's just a matter of when.

Up next: The Great Danes head out of town tomorrow and take on Drake on Monday evening. The game is a homecoming of sorts for Ennema and Puk, who are both from Iowa.

Luke Devlin played tremendously, scoring nine points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists. John Puk (13 points) and Dallas Ennema (8 points).

The Bulldogs were led by Javier Duren, who scored a game-high 26 points.

UAlbany heads out of town tomorrow and faces Drake on Monday.

ALBANY - There wasn't much offense in the final home game for the University at Albany in 2013.

The Great Danes led by as many as nine points, but lead by just three, 25-22, at halftime against Yale.

UAlbany couldn't get to the free throw line, even though they tried, as Yale was called for just three fouls in the first half.

Coach Will Brown used his bench more than he has recently, playing Levan Shengelia, Luke Devlin and Dallas Ennema, who saw the first playing time of his career.

John Puk led the way with six points for the Great Danes.

The Bulldogs had shooting concerns of their own, as the were just 7-for-31 (22.6%) from the field. Javier Duren has 10 points to lead Yale at the break.

UAlbany ran out of gas on Monday night.

Yale went on a 26-2 run in the second half in going on to a 74-53 victory in New Haven, Conn.

"First, let's give credit to Yale, I thought they played very well," said UAlbany coach Will Brown on the postgame interview with WOFX.

Right from the start of the night, Brown didn't like what he saw.

"I didn't like our energy in warmups or in the first half," he said. "But, then we just ran out of gas. Saturday's game (against Siena) was emotionally draining."

Tim Ambrose led the way with 15 points. Mike Black added 10 and Logan Aronhalt finished with eight.

The Bulldogs were led by Greg Mangano, who scored a game-high 21 points.

"I'm disappointed with this loss and disappointed with the second half in particular, but not too upset," Brown said.

UAlbany will be back at home on Saturday, when they host Central Connecticut at SEFCU Arena.

"These guys need some rest and we need to regroup for our next game," said Brown.

Voting is something very important to do.

In an election year (albeit not presidential) it's important that everyone be heard.

Anyway, I'm in the process of changing my address for voting purposes, but just have been procrastinating.

What I have been voting on is the FCS Top 25. I also just made my first picks for the ECAC football polls that started this weekend. I'll post those results when I get them.

The most troubling news for UAlbany is they're not in the The Sports Network's Top 25, yet two teams they've beaten are receiving votes - Maine and Yale.

If the Great Danes beat Robert Morris next week and Yale and Maine continue to win, they might be able to crack my Top 25 which is listed below. The number in (x) is the team's actual ranking if there's any difference.

After Villanova was defeated by William & Mary, Appalachian State (you remember them Michigan) is the new top team.

UAlbany knocked Yale out of the receiving votes category, by beating the Bulldogs 23-20.

Maine knocked off former No. 14 New Hampshire and the Black Bears, who lost to UAlbany in the first game of the year is now receiving a few votes. New Hampshire dropped to No. 22.

UAlbany's Northeast Conference foe Robert Morris is still receiving votes, but I did drop them out of my Top 25.

Stephen F. Austin received one first place vote. The Lumberjacks handed the Great Danes one of their two losses on the season.

I received my media pass for UAlbany's first home football game (Oct. 9 vs. St. Francis) this afternoon from the UAlbany Athletics department .

That must mean football is on the way.

Okay, I'm joking. Obviously, the Great Danes 2010 season is already underway.

I probably have mentioned this already, but it bears repeating that UAlbany is the only FBS or FCS team that doesn't have a home game in the month of September. They are probably the only team in the country, including Division II and III, but that's not verified.

Anyway, the Great Danes are trying to stop a two-game slide that has them thinking the 3-0 season-opening victory over Maine was so long ago it was last season.

On a negative note, freshman running back Tramaine Wilson will not travel for the second straight week. Coach Bob Ford said it's a personal issue and he's again hoping he'll be there next week for the home opener.

I had a chance to talk to senior Ross Bertrand, who is the only player from the state of Connecticut about playing Yale.

"I know it has great history behind it, but I've never been there," said the Stamford, Conn., native.

Bertrand says he'll have at least 25-30 people coming to the game.

Billy Allen posted a career night by hitting for 21 points and shooting 8-for-9 from the field to lead the Great Danes to a xx-xx victory at SEFCU Arena.

Allen has now posted back-to-back career-high nights after finishing with 16 points at North Carolina.

Tim Ambrose added 22 points for UAlbany.
