Here are the men's postseason awards for the America East Conference.

2011 America East Men’s Basketball All-Conference Teams

ALBANY - Billy Allen will be playing his last game in SEFCU Arena on Wednesday evening.

Allen is just a fourth-year junior, but the dual major in physics and mathematics, will graduate in May and then move on to the next chapter in his life after the season concludes.

Allen, who redshirted his freshman season because of a back injury, made the decision that he will not return to the UAlbany team and will instead start an internship at an engineering firm in Syracuse and hopes to then land a job with the company.

“It’ll be said,” said Allen, who will be honored along with Tim Ambrose and Fran Urli before the game against UMBC. “But I’m taking another step in my life and coach understands that.”

Allen waited to tell coach Will Brown because he thought it might be a distraction.

“Nowadays, anytime a kid can graduate college with a job in hand, you’d be foolish not to explore or take it, especially if it’s a good job,” Brown said.

Allen is only averaging 1.3 points per game, but he hit some big free throw to seal Sunday's victory over Binghamton.

"There's not enough kids out there like Billy," Brown said. "He just wants to be a part of it and he's going to do really well for himself."

Allen is hoping that the team, which has won two in a row can get hot and do something special.

“March is that time of the year to be playing well,” Allen said. “I don’t think a lot of teams will want to be playing us in a week or two.”

ALBANY - The purple squad won tonight's Purple/Gold scrimmage 38-36 at SEFCU Arena.

Leading scorers for the purple team were Mike Black (14) and Billy Allen (11). Leading for the gold was Logan Aronhalt (14) and Tim Ambrose (10).

I was really impressed with freshman Luke Devlin, who finished with seven points and five rebounds, but injured his elbow in the second half of the game.

I'll have more on the game later, including video of Ambrose.

University at Albany freshman Mike Black has been named to the 2009-10 America East All-Rookie team.

Black averaged 6.8 points, 2.4 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game and started 21 of the Great Danes' 30 games.

Black joins five other UAlbany players, who have earned such an honor. Those are Jamar Wilson (2003), Levi Levine (2003), Jon Iati (2004), Brent Wilson (2005) and Black's current teammate Tim Ambrose (2008).

Sophomore Billy Allen was named to the conference's all-academic team.

The America East Conference established a new policy before the year that said any conference road trip that is less than 200 miles away must me a day off trip.

The University at Albany's fifth conference game brings about their first chance to experience that as they travel the 175 or so miles to Boston to take on Boston University Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

"I'm anxious to see how we respond collectively, especially our young guys and that's why it's important that our older guys play well," said UAlbany coach Will Brown on Monday.

The Great Danes will make this day of trip four times (Boston, Binghamton, Vermont, Hartford) and it will certainly be a little bit different.

"All of us did it for four years in high school," said sophomore Billy Allen. "It's definitely going to be a change for the older guys."

Brown said the team will leave in the morning, get to a hotel where they will check in for the day to watch film and eat at the hotel and get a chance to stretch the legs before heading to the arena for the game.

"We don't have a great road record, so maybe if we switch things up it will help us," said Allen.

Vermont and Binghamton have already made day of trips to SEFCU Arena and posted victories over UAlbany.

"Hopefully it rubs off on us," Brown said.

Billy Allen posted a career night by hitting for 21 points and shooting 8-for-9 from the field to lead the Great Danes to a xx-xx victory at SEFCU Arena.

Allen has now posted back-to-back career-high nights after finishing with 16 points at North Carolina.

Tim Ambrose added 22 points for UAlbany.

East Greenbush native Alex Zampier led Yale with 19 points.

Freshman point guard Mike Black is starting tonight in place of senior Mike Johnson as UAlbany takes on Loyola (Chicgao).

Meanwhile, Billy Allen is starting in place of Tim Ambrose.

The game is just underway in Chicago.

UAlbany coach Will Brown said it was truly a "team" victory on Sunday as the Great Danes snapped a five-game losing skid.

“These guys really executed the gameplan, the scout and played hard," Brown said.

Without Anthony Raffa (toe) or Louis Barraza (Achilles) and with Will Harris having one of his quieter league games this season, others stepped up.

“Every guy that was playing and the guys that weren’t playing were in the game, cheering us on and we left everything on the floor," sophomore Tim Ambrose said.

Jerel Hastings, Mike Johnson, Billy Allen and Jimmie Covington all played more that 15 minutes and contributed.

Hastings had a game and career-highs with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Johnson stepped up with Raffa out and had six assists to just one turnover and as Brown said afterwards, he's the closest thing UAlbany has to a true point guard.

“I think these guys know when Mike has the ball, there’s a good chance they’re going to get it, especially if they run in transition or he penetrates,” Brown said. “He’s always looking for guys and that’s something that this team needs.”

Brown even sang the praises of Allen, who didn't score, but had five assists.

“He’s our best passer against zones,” Brown said. “The problem is he’s a much better shooter than what he showed this year, he’s just letting it get to his head. I thought he gave us a lift in Will’s absence tonight.”

Brown also said it was the hard work in the week of practice before this game that allowed them to get the win.

“We need to realize that we won this game on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, what’s today, Sunday, so I’ll keep going Saturday,” Brown said. “We need to win this New Hampshire game on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.”

While UAlbany avoided what could have been a disastrous loss and fallen into eighth place in the conference standings, Brown hopes they can climb a little higher than where they are now, tied for fifth.

“We’re looking at fifth,” Brown said. “We think if we win the next two, we’re guaranteed fifth.”

One note on Maine senior Philippe Tchekane-Bofia, who played prep ball at Redemption Christian Academy in Troy.

Tchekane-Bofia's career is over according to Maine coach Ted Woodward, who said he couldn't discuss the injury that is keeping him out this season and the rest of his career.

“He’s medically unable,” Woodward said.
