Hasbrouck is one to watch

If you to one of the sites below....www.oldspiceclassic.com - you will find a link midway down the screen of eight players to watch.

While whoever did the page picked one player from each team, I think it's safe to say that Siena's Kenny Hasbrouck would be among this class anyway.

Here's what Michael Freer says about Kenny and the rest of the Saints.

Claim to Fame: Hasbrouck was second on the team in scoring (16.1) and assists (2.2) last season while leading the MAAC in steals per game (2.26). The first team All-MAAC selection was also named the MAAC Tournament MVP.

Outlook: Siena could be next season’s Davidson, with all five starters back from a team that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. And Hasbrouck may be the best in the group, as evidenced by his 30 points in a 21-point win over Vanderbilt in the first round of NCAA Tournament. He then followed that up with 17 points against Villanova in a second-round loss.

Also mentioned
Jessie Sapp - Georgetown
Jeremy Pargo - Gonzaga
Greivis Vasquez - Maryland
Raymar Morgan - Michigan St.
James Anderson - Oklahoma State
Tyler Smith - Tennessee (a match up for Ubiles or Franklin)
Ramon Clemente - Wichita State

Siena draws Tennessee

Siena announced Tuesday that it will kick off the 2008 Old Spice Classic from Florida by taking on SEC foe Tennessee. The game will be played on Thanksgiving day at noon and will air on ESPN2.

The winner is slated to take on the winner of the Georgetown-Wichita State winner with the two losers meeting, both on the next day, Friday.

Here's more from the release.

Tennessee finished the 2007-2008 season with a 31-5 record. They advanced to the Sweet 16 in last year's NCAA Tournament posting wins over American and Butler (OT) before falling to Louisville. Tennessee ranked seventh in the final ESPN/USA Today poll and was ranked first in the February 25 ESPN/USA Today and AP polls following its win over state rival Memphis.
The Vols lost three starters from last year's team, including standout senior guard Chris Lofton.

Leading rebounder Tyler Smith (6.7), a junior, is the only double figure scorer returning (13.6).

It will be the first meeting between the two schools. Siena played two schools from the Volunteer State last season, losing at Memphis and defeating Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament. Wichita State will meet Georgetown in the second game of the Tournament with the winners and losers meeting Friday.

Seven of the eight teams qualified for postseason play in 2007-08, including five in the NCAA Tournament and two in the Sweet 16. Michigan State and Tennessee advanced to the Sweet 16, Siena and Georgetown advanced to the second round and Gonzaga also made the NCAA Tournament. Maryland and Oklahoma State played in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT).

We're Moving

Okay so the blog is making a move for the better (we hope).

To tie into The Record a little bit more we're moving to therecordsports.blogspot.com

Will and Ryan's High School blog is troyrecordsports.blogspot.com and now that I'm getting a little more blog savvy I've figured out how to move the blog along to a more fitting name.

The beginning of the blog was quick and that's where the kind of out of nowhere name came from.

Again point your browsers to therecordsports.blogspot.com for the switch, which will take place later this week.

S and S equal Success

"The motto for the camp is S (sweat) and S (sacrifice) Equal Success."

That's the motto of Tay Fisher's basketball camp that is wrapping up today in his hometown of Kingston.

Our sister paper, The Daily Freeman, did an article on the camp that you can find here.....

Fisher returns to the area on Monday, July 21, for a week-long basketball camp for boys at Saratoga High School.
