VIDEOS: Dion Lewis makes Eagles roster

Here is a story, written by our sister paper the Delco Times in Pennsylvania about former Albany Academy star Dion Lewis.

Following an impressive preseason, Lewis made the 53-man Philadelphia Eagles roster.

Dion Lewis signs with Eagles

BETHLEHEM, Pa.Dion Lewis is now an official member of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Lewis, the Eagles’ fifth-round draft choice, agreed to a four-year deal, worth a little more than $2.2 million, according to FoxSports.com’s Adam Caplan.

Lewis (right) made it official by tweeting “Officially an EAGLE”, on Wednesday afternoon.

Philadelphia
opens its 2011 training camp this afternoon, at Lehigh University, the summer home of the club and Lewis is expected to be there.

The former Pitt star was one of eight draft picks the Eagles came to terms with on Wednesday, each received four-year deals.

Lewis rushed for 2,860 yards in two seasons at Pitt.

He earned Big East Rookie of the Year honors after his first season with the Panthers and was the first player since Michael Vick, in 1999, to win both the Big East Offensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards in the same season.

Lewis’ freshman mark of 1,799 yards broke Tony Dorsett’s 36-year-old school record for freshmen.

Lewis was named The Record's 2006 Football Player of the Year, after leading Albany Academy to the Class B New York State title game, at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

Lewis ran for 1,368 yards and 22 touchdowns for the Cadets, while also making 70 tackles and intercepting three passes. Albany Academy finished 12-1 that season, losing to Geneva in the championship game.

Lewis then on to play for Blair Academy (N.J.), where he finished with 1,243 yards on just 88 carries (14.1 ypc), in his second season, while also scoring 26 total touchdowns.
