UAlbany offers coach Will Brown extension

AP
After leading his team to an America East championship, University at Albany men's basketball coach Will Brown has reportedly been offered a contract extension.

Director of Athletics Lee McElroy said it would be a four-year extension, which including the year already on his contract, would have Brown with UAlbany through the 2017-18 season.

The Great Danes finished 24-10 in 2012-13, losing to Duke in the NCAA tournament's round of 64.

Brown, who just finished his 12th season with the Great Danes, hasn't signed anything yet, but he tweeted on Tuesday, "Getting ready to board this plane. A lot of travel this week. #recruiting".

One open job that could interest the Long Island native is Hofstra.

America East staying in Albany in 2014

The America East Conference has decided Albany is a great place for its basketball tournament.

Already scheduled to play the postseason tournament at UAlbany's SEFCU Arena in 2013, the conference announced Thursday that they will host the tournament there in 2014, as well.

"Based on early ticket sales, the response from sponsors and potential media partners, as well as the growing excitement for the 2013 championship, it was an easy decision yesterday for our membership to commit to returning to Albany for our 2014 championship," said America East Commissioner Amy Huchthausen.

Both the men's and women's tournaments have never been simultaniously held in Albany. The last time the men's tournament was there, was in 2009.

"We are ecstatic that the University at Albany will be hosting this championship in both 2013 and 2014," said UAlbany Vice President & Director of Athletics Lee McElroy. "The excitement that is building on our campus, in the Capital Region and in other markets across America East's footprint for the 2013 championship motivated the membership to act on this now and we are thrilled they have."

UAlbany will host 2013 America East tournament

ALBANY - The University at Albany's SEFCU Arena will host the 2013 America East men's and women's basketball championships.

The tournament will be held from March 7-10, and will be the first time UAlbany has hosted both tournaments, after hosting just the men's event in 2009.

“We are thrilled that the University at Albany has been chosen by the membership to host this championship,” said Lee McElroy, Albany Vice President & Director of Athletics. “Our staff looks forward to building on the standard that Hartford has created hosting the combined tournament during the last three years and promise to provide a first-class tournament for America East, its schools, student-athletes and fans, as well as the Capital Region.”

The men's and women's tournaments were combined three years ago and drawn nearly 43,000 fans over those three years.

“The first three years of the combined basketball championship have been a great success and we are excited to take the 2013 tournament to Albany,” America East Commissioner Amy Huchthausen said. “Albany served as a great host for the 2009 men’s championship, one of our most successful in recent memory, and will no doubt be so again in 2013.”

ALBANY - No not that one.

University at Albany women's basketball coach Trina Patterson has resigned her post, announced Monday.

Patterson just ended her fifth consecutive losing season, falling in the America East quarterfinal against Vermont.
