Saints turn in clunker vs. Fordham
ALBANY - Evan Hymes sat in front of his locker, following a 74-59 loss to Fordham, frustrated by what had just transpired.
Siena's leading scorer, Hymes, finished with just eight points in what was a very difficult game for his team.
Coming off of one of his best performances (16 pts, 7 ast) against Massachusetts, Hymes struggled, eventually following out with 57 seconds to play.
The Saints have now lost seven of their last eight games, with the only win coming against UAlbany.
You could say this team has played better than a 3-7 team, but they won't get any credit for moral victories and playing well, unless the 'W's start coming.
Fordham coach Tom Pecora talked openly about having short practices so far this year, in hopes his team won't hit the "Freshman Wall."
Pecora has a young team like Siena (actually calling them mirror images following the game).
That's something we've talked about with the Saints, but it bears repeating, especially after a game that was lackluster.
Three of the four freshmen are averaging more than 22 minutes of playing time per game and Hymes is playing more than 33 minutes per contest.
Siena coach Mitch Buonaguro admitted his team might be a little tired, like he's said on a few occassions this year.
Unfortunately for the Saints, it only looks like they have one more player coming, in sophomore Trenity Burdine.
Saints fans have to hope that these players can withstand playing all of these minutes, especailly when Buonaguro has only nine scholarship players (once Burdine returns).
