America East Power Rankings - Jan. 2

Most of the preseason games are over in the America East Conference.

League play kicks off today with three games - UAlbany/New Hampshire, Boston U./Maine, Stony Brook/UMBC.

Here are the preseason ranking from back in October.

1. Boston U.
2. Stony Brook
3. Maine
4. New Hampshire
5. Vermont
6. Hartford
7. Binghamton
8. UAlbany
9. UMBC

Almost three months later, here is how I stack the teams up before conference play begins.

1. Vermont - wins over Siena, Iona and only team over .500 put Cats at top
2. Boston U. - Terriers have played a murderous schedule, including Kentucky, Villanova
3. Maine - Black Bears have own four of last five, including W's over UMass and Penn State
4. New Hampshire - Wildcats have lost five of seven after 4-1 start
5. UAlbany - Danes have surprised a lot of people and positioned for a run at the title
6. Stony Brook - Seawolves are really missing Tommy Brenton's presence
7. Binghamton - wins over Cornell, Manhattan are only wins since Thanksgiving
8. Hartford - Hawks have had some tough games, but have been very disappointing
9. UMBC - good news, riding one-game winning streak, bad news, were 0-12 before that win
